Computer Virus - Glossary Term
A hidden, self-replicating section of computer software, a virus is a piece of programming code inserted into other programming to cause some unexpected event, a virus cannot run by itself, it requires that its host program must be running to make the virus active. Viruses can be transmitted by downloading programming from other websites or be present on a diskette. The virus usually lies dormant until circumstances cause its code to be executed by the computer.
