“Opportunities Jamaica” Expo: JTI Connects Local Players with Growing Local Investment Opportunities…Development Bank and NCB support the move

In the wake of record Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows of US$850 million into Jamaica in 2006, the nation's investment and export promotion agency, Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI) says there is still a window of opportunity for local business interests and entrepreneurs to register for next month's "Opportunities Jamaica '07", a Business Conference and Expo designed to showcase increasing investment opportunities and prospects in the economy.

Micro, small and medium sized enterprises looking for business deals, partnerships and technical advice stand to benefit most from the two-day event being organised and facilitated by JTI. This will be done with the support of the Development Bank of Jamaica and NCB, the nation's largest commercial bank, on November 28 and 29 in Ocho Rios at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa.

"Meeting the demands of investors in the local economy, by empowering local suppliers to provide quality goods and services, fit well into the mandate of JTI to facilitate an enabling business environment for wealth creation and sustained economic growth," according to JTI's President Robert Gregory.

International Investors at Opportunities Jamaica 2007

"Opportunities Jamaica '07 will provide an environment where local and international investors can interact and have a better understanding of how they can collaborate for greater business success", says Mr. Gregory. "We want to signal to the multinationals operating in Jamaica that Today's Jamaica Means Business, and to the local operators that they must organise themselves to fully capitalise on the opportunities to grow their businesses and the economy", continued the JTI head.

The "business opportunities expo" is attracting growing interest from a number of well established businesses, financial houses and public sector agencies in the event, who will form part of a National Investors' Directory being compiled by JTI to include as many registered investors and projects in order to facilitate business matchmaking at the event.

Local and Overseas Markets for Jamaican Goods and Services

"Businesses and individuals must register now in order to be included in the Suppliers' Directory", says Lisa Bell, JTI's Executive Director of Export and Trade Development, who is keen on facilitating greater linkages among businesses. "Many of our businesses need information to not only take their goods and services to overseas markets but to meet growing local demand right here in Jamaica", added Mrs. Bell.

"Opportunities Jamaica '07" will be opened by Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister, Karl Samuda. The event will feature business learning and matchmaking sessions, including creative industries showcase to highlight the possibilities in this growing sector of the economy.

Businesses will also have the opportunity to market their goods and services at a specially designed Products and Services Expo at the event which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both days.
