Remploy Recognises Electronics Division Success

Remploy Electronics

Remploy, the UK’s leading employer of people with disabilities, has placed its electronics division on an equal footing with the organisation’s other mainstream services divisions including Remploy Automotive.

Remploy e-cycle and Remploy Healthcare. The move follows a sustained period of growth and successful development of services by Remploy Electronics and is accompanied by the promotion of Business Manager, Rick Cook, to the newly created position of General Manager, Remploy Electronics.

Remploy Electronics was previously part of the WorkScope section of Remploy, which offers contract manufacturing and supply chain solutions across industries, including the placing of disabled workers in roles within customers' premises. The electronics division now has its own separate profit and loss account responsibility.

Rick Cook joined Remploy with the aim of developing an organisation that bridged the gap between small, local specialists and the major, contract equipment manufacturers. The result has been that, through Remploy Electronics, UK SMEs now have access to high quality contract manufacturing services whilst retaining the flexibility and contact only achievable with an onshore supplier.

During nearly three years at Remploy, Cook has overseen significant investment in SMT manufacturing lines and the introduction of advanced testing services. Most recently, Remploy Electronics has introduced a RoHS compliant manufacturing service that will run in parallel with existing lines.

Cook joined Remploy from Pentair Electronic Packaging where he was group sales and marketing director with responsibility for brands including Schroff and Optima. Prior to this he was general manager of IMO Precision Controls. Earlier he was general manager of Rohm, which he joined at its inception in the UK, building the company to an annual turnover in excess of £50 million within seven years.

Remploy is the UK's leading supplier of employment opportunities for disabled people. With over 80 factories in the UK, Remploy supplies half the top British companies with goods and services, turning over more than £250 million annually. The company's manufacturing activities range from motor and electronic assemblies, through furniture, to printing and packaging. Services include IT recycling, office support and CCTV monitoring.

Remploy Electronics is a standalone division created in 2003 to focus entirely on providing manufacturing services to the electronics sector. It has five dedicated production sites offering printed circuit board (PCB), cable and wiring harness, and electro-mechanical assembly.
